A challenging motion, sponsored by Nottingham City Liberal Democrats, which seeks to amend the present unfair and lopsided UK-US Extradition Treaty was passed unanimously by delegates at the East Midlands Regional Autumn Conference in Bakewell, Derbyshire this past weekend.
The mover of this motion, local party vice-chairperson, Barbara Pearce said “it was important that this issue remained alive and at the forefront of people’s minds whilst we continue to vigorously campaign to amend this unfair treaty”. Seconded by Scott Walker, Campaign Co-ordinator for Nottingham City Liberal Democrats said “we are in the unique position that amending this treaty has widespread support from the public, party-members, press and parliamentarians… yet it has failed to be amended even after 5 parliamentary motions have been passed.” He went on to call for the motion to be debated at Federal Conference in Spring 2013.

Now that our motion has regional party support, the campaign will move to the next phase of widening the base of support for the petition by including additional stakeholders such as politicians, campaigning bodies, charities, ordinary citizens, celebrities and the business community.
